BJP has understood that progress in India is often measured by the tall and swanky infrastructural marvels, and by showcasing these structures to the public, the public feels that the area has progressed massively undermining the condition of the city's economy, necessity, etc. If not vote on ideology or caste, the swanky infrastructure that replicates present-day America is what drives many people in the semi-urban areas to vote for a certain party in our country. This is something that people have to understand at the earliest that it will only hurt the economy more, forcing the govt to focus on issues where there is an actual necessity.

It is merely a clerical thing to just list the airport in a new list. So airlines can fly more international routes. Now only three international flights to Dubai and Singapore and Colombo are operated. Once this airport added to full scale international list then more routes will be operational. For more than 15 years people and chamber of commerce of Madurai petitioning union govt for this. But why take no action . Cannot compare Mumbai Pune with any other place. This is a unique region blessed by nature, man and God and Pune was one of India's most important cities even at the time of independence in 1947. Plus, that expressway is not the reason for the growth, Pune city grew so the expressway grew. Without the expressway also, Pune would still have been a very important city, as it was prior to the expressway too. Same way, assuming an expressway between Mumbai and other city, would it have the same impact.
Plus, future kya hoga, we don't know. It's possible that the economy may not grow the way we think. Or it may, let's see. The Modi government has taken a gamble, future will tell if it pays or not.

Thats why even Gadkari said that when he planned this expy in early 2000s, people laughed at him and told it is not possible or people will not use it, but see now. Expys and small airports bring cities/regions virtually closer by reducing travel time which promotes businesses to expand. Their effect is seen in long term.
